In 2012, Fuzhong Zhang became a professor in the Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in the Kealsing Laboratory at the University of California-Berkeley and the Joint Bioenergy Institute.
Professor Zhang’s research interests focus on applying synthetic biology, protein engineering and metabolic engineering approaches to produce pharmaceuticals and advanced biofuels from sustainable resources. Specifically, his interests include: (1) developing dynamic regulatory systems for biosynthetic pathways; (2) engineering cyanobacterial hosts for the production of advanced biofuels; (3) developing novel synthetic biology parts (including enzymes, sensors, control elements); (4) engineering microbes for environmental applications.
