1910
"Chemical Engineering" first appeared in Washington University catalogs as a Bachelor of Science degree program in the School of Engineering.

 

1940
The Department of Chemical Engineering was founded.

 

1954
The initial Environmental Engineering Science program was established in the School of Engineering.

 

2000
After 30 years, the Environmental Engineering Science program was re-established as an interdisciplinary graduate program.

 

2006
Washington University became the first university in the world to create a department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering (EECE) by bringing together faculty involved in an interdisciplinary environmental engineering science graduate program and faculty in the Department of Chemical Engineering.

Prior to moving to Brauer Hall, The Department of Energy, Environmental & Chemical Engineering offices were located in Cupples II, the oldest of the engineering buildings — its cornerstone was laid in 1901.
